Leadership Roundtables and Networking Reception - September 2026

Against a backdrop of increasing regulatory complexity, energy market volatility and growing pressure to deliver measurable business value, attendees explored some of the most pressing challenges facing organisations today.

Through expert-led panel discussions and collaborative workshops, participants shared perspectives on heat network regulation, energy strategy, decarbonisation, supply chain resilience and the practical steps organisations can take to strengthen business resilience.

Event Highlights

The event centred around two leadership roundtables, bringing together diverse industry perspectives on regulatory change, energy strategy and business resilience.

The first focused on the UK's evolving heat network regulatory framework. Featuring guest insights from Tricia Quinn of Ofgem, Chris Paul and Emily King of Trowers & Hamlins, and Soulla Paphitis of Guru Systems, the panel explored regulatory readiness, registration requirements, operational responsibilities, metering, monitoring and fair pricing considerations.

The second discussion examined how organisations can deliver business value through cost avoidance, decarbonisation and supply chain resilience. Panellists explored energy procurement strategies, energy efficiency, renewable energy opportunities, reporting requirements and the growing need to build strong commercial cases for sustainability investment.

Preparing for Heat Network Regulation

A key theme from the heat network discussion was the importance of preparation.

With heat network regulation continuing to develop and registration required by January 2027, organisations were encouraged to continue identifying heat networks within their portfolios, assess their responsibilities, review the processes, systems and data needed to support compliance, and begin registering their heat networks on the digital platform.

The discussion highlighted the complexity of determining who is responsible for compliance across different ownership, management and operational structures. Attendees also explored the role of metering, monitoring and transparent billing in creating fairer outcomes for both building owners and consumers.

While aspects of the framework continue to evolve, the panel agreed that organisations that start preparing now will be in a stronger position to navigate future requirements successfully.

Delivering Business Value Through Cost Avoidance, Decarbonisation and Supply Chain Resilience

A second major theme of the day focused on the changing role of energy and sustainability within organisations.

Participants discussed how energy and sustainability initiatives are increasingly expected to deliver measurable business benefits alongside environmental outcomes. Reducing exposure to energy price volatility, strengthening supply chain resilience, improving operational efficiency and avoiding future costs are becoming just as important as carbon reduction targets.

Energy efficiency emerged as a common starting point, with attendees discussing how reducing consumption can lower operating costs while supporting wider decarbonisation goals. The conversation also explored the role of renewable energy, procurement strategies, electrification and long-term planning in helping organisations build resilience in an increasingly uncertain environment.

Across sectors, participants recognised that organisations are no longer being asked simply to decarbonise. They are being asked to demonstrate how energy and sustainability initiatives contribute to business performance, resilience and long-term value creation.

Looking Ahead

The roundtables reinforced that energy, sustainability and business resilience are increasingly interconnected.

Whether preparing for heat network regulation, responding to market volatility, strengthening supply chains or progressing decarbonisation strategies, organisations are being asked to make decisions in a rapidly changing environment.

By combining strong governance, reliable data, long-term planning and collaboration, businesses can build resilience while continuing to deliver meaningful progress towards their energy and sustainability objectives.
